pegasus, the full-screen player.

Pegasus is rpm's full-screen player, for a TV or a large screen. It shows the album that is playing, can show the lyrics, and lets you browse your collection with a TV remote, the keyboard or a game controller.

The room

The record is shown half out of its sleeve, on a moving background in the colours of the cover. A spectrum around it follows the music. When the album changes, the colours change with it.

Open Pegasus from the view menu on the player. The controls fade away after five seconds and come back when you move the mouse or press a key.

Layouts

One button steps through three layouts, each one taking something away and giving the room the space:

Full
The record half out of its sleeve in the middle, the song's details down the left, and the spectrum running out from behind the disc to the edge of the screen.
Compact
The spectrum goes and the details move in under the cover: the record and what is playing.
Visuals only
The room alone, drifting in the record's colours. No sleeve, no record, no words.

Lyrics and karaoke

When a record has timed lyrics, the lyrics key shows them scrolling against the room as they are sung, or beside the record when you open them from the compact layout.

Follow words by ear times every single word to the recording, so the words light up as they are sung. It runs on your own computer, and it is for supporters.

Hide explicit words hides explicit words in the lyrics on screen.

Remote and controller

Pegasus can be used from a distance. The arrow keys, OK and Back move a focus ring around the screen, so it works with a TV remote, a keyboard or a game controller.

  • Home, the same recommendations as the main window.
  • Albums, your album wall with search and favourites.
  • An album screen for each album, with its Wikipedia article.
  • Switch collection to a library a friend shares with you.

Up next

Open the queue beside the record. On any track, swipe right to play it next, or swipe left to add it to a playlist. Move a track with Up and Down; OK places it and Back cancels.

Radio

A full-screen tuner with a wheel for Music, News and Local stations, popular stations, your favourites, and the essential stations in your country.

Visualisers

Eight full-screen visualisers, each drawn live from the music:

Ribbon Sea
Glowing contour lines over an open sea. The music lifts the whole swell.
Low Frequency Flow
A flight through a field of turning blocks, lit by the track.
Bloom
A flower of light on a golden spiral.
Chladni
Sand on a sounding plate, as Chladni did it in 1787.
Butterfly
The spectrum, mirrored into four.
Tunnel
A tunnel of folded light, flown to the beat. The camera cuts every two bars.
Kaleidoscope
Two mirrors set at an angle, with a single strut between them.
Lattice
A slice through a grid with four dimensions instead of three.

Small surprises

For ABBA and for disco and funk records, Pegasus shows a mirror ball. At midnight on New Year's Eve it plays ABBA's "Happy New Year", if the song is in your collection.
