iPhone manual
the cloud.
Your collection can stay on your computer only, or be uploaded to the rpm cloud so you can play it on your iPhone, your TV and your other computers. This page explains the options.
Put your music in the cloud
Your music goes into the cloud from rpm on your Mac or PC. In Settings, under Cloud, choose:
- Sync all music
- Everything in your collection is uploaded, and new music follows.
- Sync selected music
- Only the albums and playlists you choose.
- Don't sync
- Your collection stays on your computer. Nothing is uploaded.
A chip on the player shows the upload's progress; pause and resume it whenever you like. Recent activity covers the last 30 days, and anything that could not be uploaded is listed with the reason.
Your music is uploaded in its original quality, exactly as it is in your files. If you have more than one computer, they all share one cloud collection: music uploaded from one plays on the others.
Storage
- Free
- 100 GB on every account
- Supporters
- No limit
- Largest file
- 500 MB
- Almost full
- rpm warns you when less than 2 GB is left
- Full
- New uploads stop and Sync all music switches to Sync selected music. Nothing is deleted, and everything already in the cloud keeps playing.
When two people own the same recording, the audio is stored once. Your tags, your artwork and your library stay your own.
Streaming quality
On the iPhone, choose the quality separately for Wi-Fi, for mobile data and for downloads. Lower bitrates are made from your original as you need them, even while you listen.
- Free accounts
- AAC at 96 or 128 kbps
- Supporters
- AAC at 96, 128, 192, 256 or 320 kbps, or the original file
- Low Data Mode
- When the iPhone is in Low Data Mode, rpm streams at 128 kbps or lower
- On your computer
- rpm on your Mac or PC always plays the original
The player shows what you are hearing: the bitrate, Original, or On this phone.
Offline albums
Tap the download button on an album page to keep it on the phone. Downloads carry on in the background and pick up where they stopped. Downloads in your profile shows the space they use and lets you remove several at once. Without a connection, an offline bar appears and rpm plays what is on the phone. Downloads are removed when you sign out.
Free space on your computer
On your Mac or PC, rpm can keep music in the cloud only. Once the cloud copy has been checked, the local files are removed and the album is marked Cloud only; it still plays, streamed from the original. Bring an album back whenever you like, or bring them all back at once.
When you delete music, you choose: from this computer, from the cloud, or everywhere. Files deleted from your computer go to the Trash.
What syncs
- The playlists you choose to add to the cloud, with their pictures, and the lists rpm makes for you.
- Play counts and when you last played each song.
- Hearts on songs and albums.
- Your radio listening.
Changes go both ways: a playlist edited on the phone is edited on your computer.
Privacy and safety
- Audio is uploaded only if you turn on cloud storage.
- Audio is encrypted at rest on Amazon Web Services in Ireland, and played through links that expire after six hours. It is not end-to-end encrypted.
- Nobody else can play your music, unless you share your collection with a friend yourself.
Read the full privacy policy.
Your account
rpm on your computer works without an account. The cloud, the iPhone app, looking up releases, recognition and sharing need one. Sign in with Apple, Google, or email and password.
You can delete your account in either app, or on the web. The account goes at once, and your cloud data within two hours. The files on your own computers are not touched. Reviews you wrote stay, under "Deleted user".
